The Ministry of Construction has released a new maritime infrastructure master plan for the 2021–2030 period, with a vision to 2050, according to a report from the Government News.

The plans targets to increase seaport capacity to 1.396-1.656 billion tons of cargo by the end of this decade.

Under the plan, Vietnam's projected seaports are divided into two groups.

The first group includes 15 seaports to be built  in Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, Can Tho and Vinh Long.

The second group includes six seaports to be built in Hung Yen, Ninh Binh, Dak Lak, Dong Thap, An Giang and Ca Mau.

Notably,  new major seaports such as Can Gio International Transshipment Port in Ho Chi Minh City, Lien Chieu Container Port in the central city of Da Nang, and the Nam Do Son Port and Logistics Center in the northern city of Hai Phong will be built.

By 2030, the total land requirement for the seaport system is estimated at approximately 19,800 hectares, while the total water surface area is around 1.8385 million hectares.

Meanwhile, the total investment needed to develop the seaport system is estimated at VND 581 trillion ($22.1 billion), according to the ministry.
