The Ministry of Construction has approved adjustments to the National Airport System Development Master Plan for the 2021–2030 period, with a vision toward 2050.
A key highlight of the update is the addition of Ninh Binh to the list of international airports by 2030, reported Radio the Voice of Vietnam.
According to Decision No. 1140/QD-BXD, dated July 1, 2026, Vietnam aims to have 36 airports by 2030, consisting of 19 international airports and 17 domestic airports. Compared to previous iterations of the plan, Ninh Binh has been officially elevated to the international airport category.
The list of 19 designated international airports includes Cao Bang, Van Don, Cat Bi, Noi Bai, Gia Binh, Ninh Binh, Tho Xuan, Vinh, Phu Bai, Da Nang, Chu Lai, Van Phong, Cam Ranh, Lien Khuong, Long Thanh, Tan Son Nhat, Can Tho, Phu Quoc, and Con Dao.
Looking toward 2050, the plan envisions a total of 37 airports nationwide, including 20 international hubs. In addition to those mentioned above, the 2050 vision includes the development of a second airport to serve the Hanoi Capital Region.
Alongside the updated airport list, the ministry has introduced development orientations for air logistics centers at airports with a cargo capacity demand of 250,000 tons per year or more. Furthermore, Aircraft Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) centers will be prioritized at major airports with robust infrastructure and favorable international flight networks, such as Van Don, Noi Bai, Gia Binh, Chu Lai, Tan Son Nhat, and Long Thanh.
