Prime Minister Le Minh Hung met with Chinese businesses investing in Vietnam in Hanoi on August 26, proposing them to pursue higher-quality investment and strengthen cooperation with Vietnamese companies.
Representatives of Chinese enterprises operating in six sectors — manufacturing and processing, energy, infrastructure, high-tech agriculture, telecommunications and digital transformation, and finance and banking — attended the meeting.
The businesses briefed the Prime Minister on their investment, production and operations in Vietnam, while raising difficulties and proposing solutions to the Government, ministries and local authorities.
PM Hung called on Chinese companies to continue viewing Vietnam as a long-term destination for investment, production and business, while increasing investment in projects using more advanced technologies and generating greater added value and spillover effects.
He particularly urged them to shift their focus toward investment quality, technology, value creation and wider economic benefits; increase spending on research and development (R&D) and innovation; and strengthen links with Vietnamese companies, enabling them to participate more deeply in supply chains and raise the local content of products.
PM Hung broadly agreed with the recommendations and instructed ministries, agencies and local authorities to address 44 proposals and concerns raised by Chinese businesses across the six sectors.
He said Vietnam would continue improving its institutions and investment and business environment, accelerating administrative reforms and simplifying procedures.
The PM also said he had instructed the Minister of Finance to establish a mechanism for the rapid receipt and resolution of problems and recommendations raised by businesses, including Chinese investors.
