The Ministry of Construction has submitted investment proposals to the National Assembly for two expressway projects, Bao Ha–Tan Phong and Moc Chau–Son La–Dien Bien in Vietnam's northern mountainous region, with a combined preliminary investment of more than VND114 trillion ($4.33 billion).

The proposed Bao Ha–Tan Phong Expressway will stretch approximately 119 km across Lao Cai and Lai Chau provinces. It is planned as a four-lane expressway with a design speed of 80–100 kph.

The project’s preliminary investment is estimated at nearly VND51 trillion. Of this, almost VND49 trillion would come from the central government budget, while Lai Chau province would contribute more than VND2 trillion.

Land clearance and construction are scheduled to begin in 2027. The project is expected to be substantially completed in 2030 and opened to traffic in 2031.

The Moc Chau–Son La–Dien Bien Expressway section through Son La province is expected to span nearly 180 kilometers. It is also planned as a four-lane road, with a design speed of 80 kph.

The project’s preliminary investment is estimated at more than VND63 trillion, to be funded by the central government budget.

Subject to approval by the competent authorities, compensation, support and resettlement work, along with construction, will begin in 2027. The project is targeted for substantial completion in 2030 and is expected to open to traffic from 2031.

The two proposed expressways are intended to strengthen transport connectivity across the northern mountainous region.
