Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports posted strong growth in the first five months of 2026, with export turnover reaching an estimated $2.69 billion, up 16.8% from the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.

In May alone, fruit and vegetable exports were valued at approximately $630 million. China remained Vietnam’s largest market, accounting for 49.6% of total export value, followed by the US and South Korea with shares of 8.7% and 5.4%, respectively.

During the January-May period, exports to China surged 31.4% year-on-year, while shipments to the United States and South Korea increased by 16% and 9.1%, respectively. Among Vietnam’s 15 largest export markets, Cambodia recorded the fastest growth, with export value rising 3.6-fold, while exports to the United Arab Emirates fell 42.3%.

Durian continued to be the sector’s leading export product. Supported by off-season harvests, expanded approvals of growing-area codes by China, and the implementation of a frozen durian export protocol, durian export value jumped 59.7% from a year earlier.

Other products also delivered strong results. Pistachio exports reached $224.6 million, more than tripling year-on-year, while coconut and coconut-based products generated $198.4 million, up nearly 15%. Dragon fruit, jackfruit and passion fruit also benefited from steady demand in major markets.
