Vietnam’s total foreign trade reached an estimated $52.33 billion in the first half of August 2026, up 1.54% from the first half of July, according to preliminary data from the Vietnam Customs.

Computers, electronic products and components were a major driver of the export rebound. After declining in early July, exports of the group increased 11.79% in the first half of August to more than $7.32 billion, contributing about $772.81 million to the overall export increase. Imports of the same products rose 2.99% to approximately $12.73 billion, an increase of $369.08 million.

As of August 15, cumulative trade turnover stood at $712.72 billion, representing a 28.3% increase from the same period last year.

The trade balance improved in the first half of August as exports rose sharply while imports declined. Export turnover reached $25.41 billion, up 6.11%, while imports fell 2.43% to $26.91 billion compared with the first half of July.

In the first falf of this month, foreign-invested enterprises recorded exports of $20.66 billion, up 7.54%, while imports fell 0.97% to $20.77 billion.

This year, as of August 15,  the FDI sector posted a surplus of more than $7 billion, while domestic firms recorded a deficit of about $28.88 billion, double the figure from the same period in 2025.
