Total trade turnover is estimated at $1.0106 trillion in the first 10 months of 2026, up 32.3% compared to the same period in 2025, officially surpassing the $1 trillion milestone, according to the Government's online newspaper (chinhphu.vn).

According to the Agency of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), in October alone, total import-export turnover is estimated at $122.2 billion, an increase of 47.6% year-on-year.

Notably, export turnover in the first ten months is estimated at $499 billion, up 27.4%, providing positive momentum toward achieving and exceeding the government's full-year export growth target of 15-16% in 2026.

Export growth was recorded in both the domestic economic sector and the foreign-invested (FDI) sector. Processed and manufactured industrial products remained the key export category, accounting for 87.4% of the total export value.

Exports also expanded strongly in major markets such as China, the United States, the European Union, South Korea, and ASEAN countries.

 Import-Export Strategy to 2030, vision toward 2045

The MoIT is currently drafting a Goods Import-Export Strategy to 2030, with a vision toward 2045.

Under the draft strategy, during the 2026-2030 period, average annual export growth is targeted at 15-16%, while imports are expected to grow by 12-13% per year. By 2045, Vietnam aims to rank among the top 10 countries in the world in terms of merchandise export and import value.

The strategy also aims to maintain a sustainable trade surplus during 2026-2030, with the trade surplus accounting for an average of 3-6% of total export turnover. By 2045, this ratio is expected to rise to 7-10%.

In addition, the draft emphasizes the development of trade on a deeper and more sustainable basis by increasing the value added from processing, science, and technology.

In terms of markets, the strategy seeks to diversify export and import markets, reduce dependence on a limited number of partners, and achieve balanced development in both breadth and depth.

To broaden market coverage, Vietnam aims to increase the number of export markets with annual export turnover exceeding $1 billion to more than 45 markets by 2030 and 55 markets by 2045.

The strategy further seeks to raise the share of exports to emerging markets, including South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America, to around 10% by 2030, and approximately 15% by 2045.
