The Da Nang City People’s Committee on June 26 held a groundbreaking ceremony in Ben Giang Commune for the renovation and upgrade of National Highway 14D.
This vital artery connects Central Vietnam to Laos through the Nam Giang International Border Gate and is expected to drive socio-economic growth across Da Nang’s western region.
The project's technical scope includes the construction of 26 new bridges—eight of which will replace existing old structures—and upgrading the road to Grade 3-mountainous road standards with a 9-meter-wide roadbed.
Spanning 65.37 km, the route begins at the intersection with the Ho Chi Minh Highway in Ben Giang Commune and terminates at the Nam Giang International Border Gate. The project represents a total investment of over VND4.5 trillion (nearly $172 million), with the majority allocated from the central budget and the remainder from local funds. The project is slated for completion in 2028.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee, Tran Chi Cuong, emphasized that the significance of National Highway 14D extends far beyond simple transport.
He noted that the project is a key component of the city’s strategy to expand development space toward the west, strengthen regional connectivity, and improve infrastructure capacity. This will provide a foundation for the growth of logistics, border trade, and the mountainous economy in the coming period.
